Despite Strong Profits, BPC Hikes Fuel Prices While Global Oil Rates Decline
Fuel prices in the international market are gradually declining. Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has been making profits for several years. In the 2024–25 fiscal year, after deducting all expenses, BPC made a net profit of Tk 4,316 crore. In this situation, questions have been raised over the decision to increase fuel prices instead of adjusting and reducing them.
Nation Records Significant Jump in New HIV Cases
The country has recorded the highest year-on-year increase in new HIV cases in more than two decades, according to a newly released report, sparking serious public health concerns. A total of 1,891 new HIV infections were reported between November last year and October this year—453 more cases than the previous year.
Govt secondary teachers go on strike, annual exams halted
Teachers of government secondary schools are going on a full-day work stoppage from tomorrow, Monday (1 December 2025), with a four-point demand including bringing the entry-level position of Assistant Teacher under the BCS cadre. As part of the work stoppage, they will also suspend the ongoing annual examinations. The annual exams started on 24 November.

Pakistan Seeks to Buy 100,000 Tons of Rice for Shipment to Bangladesh
Pakistan’s Trading Corporation (TCP) has issued an international tender to purchase 100,000 tons of white rice for export to Bangladesh. The tender was published on Monday (24 November) by the Pakistani daily Dawn. It stated that long-grain “IRRI-6” grade rice will be purchased with the aim of supplying it to Bangladesh through the Karachi port. The deadline for submitting bids has been set for 28 November.
